Simonroth Spätburgunder (Pinot noir)
Exhibitor
Weingut Schnaitmann
SIMONROTH is a protected name for the premium wines of our estate, first introduced with the 1997 vintage. The grapes are harvested from VDP-classified Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards. The name derives from a hamlet called “Immosrod”, founded at the foot of the Kappelberg, which gave its name to the surrounding vineyards.
GRAPE VARIETY Pinot Noir
DESCRIPTION The wine displays a brilliant sapphire-red core with a cherry-red rim.
The nose is very refined and complex. Initially, aromas of autumn leaves, violets, roasted almonds, juniper, air-dried ham, red meat and iodine emerge, followed by distinct fruit notes of red and blackcurrant, sour cherry and black cherry.
Lively acidity and fine-grained tannins create a dense and powerful structure. Its minerality, with subtle notes of iron, provides remarkable freshness and length. The oak is perfectly integrated. Great ageing potential!
VINIFICATION Fermented on the skins with 70% whole clusters and spontaneous fermentation. Aged for 18 months in 300-litre barrels, 40% new and 60% used. Bottled unfiltered.
SOIL Variegated marl, Schilfsandstein sandstone
