About us
Weingut Knebel is a family-owned winery based in Winningen on the Terrassenmosel, one of the most spectacular and challenging wine-growing landscapes in Germany.
We cultivate 8 hectares of vineyards, predominantly steep and terraced sites with rocky slate soils. Our focus is exclusively on Riesling, grown in some of Winningen’s most renowned vineyards, including Röttgen and Uhlen.
All grapes are harvested by hand, with meticulous selection in the vineyard. In the cellar, we follow a minimal-intervention approach, allowing the character of each site and vintage to speak for itself. Our wines are defined by precision, depth, minerality and a distinctive expression of their origin.
Weingut Knebel is a member of the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter) and was named “Winemaker of the Year – Mosel” by VINUM Weinguide Germany 2026.

Weingut Knebel produces exclusively Riesling from the steep and terraced vineyards of Winningen on the Terrassenmosel. Our portfolio follows the VDP classification and ranges from estate and village wines to VDP.ERSTE LAGE and VDP.GROSSE LAGE wines.
The range includes Mosel Riesling, Winningen village wines, VDP.ERSTE GEWÄCHSE from Hamm and Brückstück, as well as our VDP.GROSSE GEWÄCHSE from the renowned Röttgen and Uhlen vineyards. Selected Prädikat wines, including Kabinett, Spätlese and Auslese, complete the portfolio.
All wines are produced from hand-harvested Riesling grapes, with a strong focus on origin, individual vineyard character and minimal intervention in the cellar.
RÖTTGEN VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS
Röttgen is one of the most renowned and distinctive vineyards of Winningen. Its extremely steep, terraced slopes rise directly above the Mosel and are characterized by rocky, weathered slate soils.
Our RÖTTGEN VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS is a dry Riesling of remarkable depth and concentration, combining ripe fruit with pronounced minerality, fine structure and vibrant acidity. Powerful yet precise, it reflects the warmth and intensity of the Röttgen vineyard while retaining the elegance and tension characteristic of the Terrassenmosel.
The grapes are selectively harvested by hand, followed by spontaneous fermentation and a minimal-intervention approach in the cellar. A Riesling with great ageing potential and a distinctive expression of its origin.
UHLEN VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS
Uhlen is one of the most iconic vineyards of Winningen and the Terrassenmosel. Its spectacular, extremely steep terraces rise high above the Mosel and are characterized by complex, rocky slate soils.
Our UHLEN VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS is a dry Riesling of remarkable precision and complexity, combining fine fruit with pronounced minerality, herbal and spicy notes, vibrant acidity and great tension. More restrained and cool in character, it reveals its depth gradually and reflects the distinctive character of the Uhlen vineyard with exceptional clarity.
The grapes are selectively harvested by hand, followed by spontaneous fermentation and a minimal-intervention approach in the cellar. A complex, elegant Riesling with remarkable length, distinctive character and excellent ageing potential.
