About us

What does it mean to be a cooperative today? For us, it is a daily commitment to values that have not gone out of fashion: community, transparency, sustainability and quality. We believe that true enjoyment does not come by chance, but is the result of hard work, honest origins and passionate conviction.

Our cooperative is a vibrant network of winegrowers and employees who work together to get the best out of every grape – always with a focus on people and cooperation. We are committed to quality-conscious cultivation, modern technology in harmony with tradition, and a deep understanding of our soils, our microclimate, and the history from which we come.

The fact that our roots go back over 1250 years is not a nostalgic look back – it is a commitment. The legacy of the Baroness von Neuenfels has given rise to a culture of sharing, cooperation and long-term thinking. This culture shapes not only our products, but also our dealings with partners, customers and nature.

The history of our cooperative began during a period of upheaval. Around 1950, viticulture in Britzingen was threatened by vine diseases, poor development and economic uncertainty. It was the solidarity of the winegrowers that made the difference: with foresight and energy, they decided to act together.

The municipality had recently built a new hall with a wine cellar, financed by the sale of oak wood from a forest that Elisabeth von Neuenfels had donated to the municipalities of Britzingen, Dattingen and Zunzingen around 1500. On 1 December 1950, 70 winegrowers met for the cooperative's founding meeting – and thus laid the foundation for what is now one of the most renowned cooperatives in the Markgräflerland region.

The spirit of this founding generation – communal, forward-looking, courageous – continues to shape our identity to this day.

Our logo tells a story. The horsewoman depicted on every bottle represents Elisabeth von Neuenfels – the woman who once gifted the communities with an oak forest. This gift not only enabled the cooper's trade to flourish for centuries, but also later led to the construction of the community hall with its cellar – the foundation of our cooperative.

The image shows Elisabeth on horseback, receiving a toast of honour from a winegrower – a symbol of the unusually respectful relationship between the local nobility and the population of Britzingen. While serfdom prevailed elsewhere, life here was characterised by fairness, generosity and genuine cooperation.

The logo was designed in 1952 by Fritz Kaiser. To this day, it is not only our distinguishing mark, but also an expression of our attitude: our wines carry history – and responsibility.
