About us
The history of the Hirsch-Muth family goes back to a time, more than 400 years ago, the turn of the 16th to the 17th century. Wars, destruction and a great fire have caused the documentation of our family history to break off at some point. Today, we celebrate the year 1604 as the founding year of our winery. Our founding father, ancestor and first generation was Hieronymus Hirsch.The coat of arms of our family still adorns our labels. Today, the winery is owned and managed by the family with my father Klaus Muth in the 12th generation and myself in the 13th generation. We have been a member of VDP, the German wine elite, since the year 1971. Our main focus is on Riesling. The Rheinhessen climate offers the perfect conditions for this sensitive grape variety. Wine is personal. Our wine is a part of ourselfes, a part of our family history, our culture and the land that we cultivate. What we enjoy the most is to see our wine bringing joy to others. - Elisabeth Muth

Our vines grow on ancient loess terraces in Alsheim, wurzelecht, which means they are own-rooted. They have sur vived the phylloxera plague, the Rheinhessen land consolidation and a world war and are now already being cultivated by the fifth generation of our family. They grow on loam and barren limestone rocks, with the view of the historic architectural ensemble of Landskron Castle and the Gothic church of St. Katharinen in Oppenheim. And they grow at the river Rhine in Nierstein. On the steepest slope in Rheinhessen, at Roter Hang, on red slate, a red- glowing clay slate containing iron oxide. The sites are so steep that they force us to work without the help of machines, almost exclusively by hand. Alsheim, Oppenheim and Nierstein. Loess, limestone and red slate. Three cities, three unique terroirs and old vines built the perfect base for wines of an outstanding quality.
